Experience working with many wealthy families confirms that financial abundance alone is not always experienced as genuine prosperity contributing to well-being. Prosperity becomes generative when it helps people become more fully themselves, more deeply connected to one another, more capable of meeting life’s challenges, and more able to contribute to the flourishing of others.
For this dream to become reality, stewardship of intergenerational wealth requires far more than technical expertise. It asks couples to cultivate the awareness, relationships, and capabilities needed to build a family culture that honors the past while creating the conditions for future generations to thrive in the unique conditions wealth creates.
The Generative Prosperity Forum is a developmental learning community for couples navigating the intersection of love, money, and power in the presence of significant intergenerational wealth. Together, participants explore the important questions that naturally arise in family life which financial education, governance, and technical planning alone cannot answer.
Questions like:
Beyond preparing our children to manage wealth responsibly, how do we raise them to be grounded and motivated to live meaningful, connected, and purposeful lives in its presence?
How might we know when various kinds of support we can provide is strengthening those we love and when it may unintentionally be limiting their growth?
How do we stay connected as a family around the use of family resources while supporting each member to pursue their individual development as well?
How do we stay aligned as a couple while navigating the complexities and tensions of family, privilege, opportunity, inheritance and power?
How do we talk about money openly without allowing it to become the center of our lives?
Most families devote enormous effort to growing, protecting, and transferring financial assets. Far fewer devote the same attention to developing the people, relationships, and family culture needed to transform those resources into meaningful lives, healthy relationships, and meaningful contribution.
We created the Generative Prosperity Forum because preparing people to live well with wealth is different from preparing them to manage wealth well. We call this work Generative Prosperity as it is the ongoing practice of transforming financial abundance into vitality, meaningful contribution, healthy relationships, and lives that feel worth living.
